ಚೋಟಾ ಚಾರ್ ಧಾಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ, ಭಗೀರಥಿ ನದಿ (ಗಂಗೆಯ ಮೂಲ ನದಿ) ಗಂಗೋತ್ರಿ ಹಿಮನದಿಯಿಂದ ಇಳಿಯುವ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

18ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋರಖಾ ಜನರಲ್ ಅಮರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಠಾಪಾ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ; ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಬೇಸಿಗೆ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ತೀರ್ಥಯಾತ್ರಾ ಸ್ಥಳ.
