ചോട്ടാ ചാർ ദാം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം, ഗംഗോത്രി ഗ്ലേഷറിൽ നിന്ന് താഴേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്ന ഭഗീരഥി നദിയുടെ (ഗംഗയുടെ ഉറവിടം) സ്ഥലം അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

18ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തിൽ ഗോർഖാ ജനറൽ അമർ സിംഗ് താപ്പയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് വേനൽക്കാലത്ത് ഒരു പ്രധാന തീർത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രം.
