జై జవాన్ జై కిసాన్ అనే నినాదం ఇచ్చాడు. ఆయన అడిగాడు — ఆదేశించలేదు. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా భారతీయులు ప్రతి సోమవారం సాయంత్రం స్వచ్ఛందంగా ఉపవాసం చేసి fronteలోని సైనికులకు ఆహారం పంపించారు. వారు సందేహం లేకుండా చేశారు.
